The first of its kind World Intelligent Cities Summit took place in Istanbul on the 13-14 September. The agenda included prominent figures from the Turkish government and local authorities together with international experts presenting best practices for the development sustainable cities. While primarily a business and policy summit it was a rather interesting meeting in terms of the common direction towards a more sustainable future where ICT plays a critical role.

Idris Gulluce, Deputy & Chair Committee on Public Works, Reconstruction, Transportation and Tourism of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) talked extensively about the importance of local cultureand social understanding for the success of smart policies in cities.

1) What is your department’s role and key objectives in the smart cities?
Our Department is the Energy Management Office of Municipality and Smart City Office. The Office’s role is to coordinate the “Bari Smart City” project towards municipality offices and the stakeholders.

2) What are the key projects your department became involved with recently?
We have been awarded a project of energy efficiency retrofit of school buildings plants, installation of P.V. plants and new information system for maintenance for € 38.178.106

2012 yılında küresel büyümenin azalması, dünya ticaret hacminin yavaşlamasına bağlı olarak gelişmekte olan bazı ülkelerin büyümelerinin de olumsuz yönde etkilenmesi ve gelişmiş ülkelerdeki yüksek işsizlik oranları gibi olumsuz tablolar sürekli gündemdeydi. Her ne kadar dünya ekonomisine olumsuz bir görünüm yerleşmiş olsa da, güzel haberler gelmiyor değil. Geçen hafta okuduğum ‘Akıllı Şehirler’ konulu bir rapor 2013 yılında başta gelişmekte olan ekonomiler olmak üzere dünya ticareti için olumlu sinyaller veriyordu. Geçtiğimiz hafta yayınlanan ve Asya pazarına yönelik hazırlanmış raporun konusu son zamanlarda gündemin popüler başlıklarından akıllı şehirlerdi. Raporda, her ne kadar akıllı şehir projelerinde Avrupa pazar payı olarak liderliği elinde bulundursa da, Asya’nın hızlı bir yükselişte olduğu vurgulanıyor.
